ELA –
This week, we set our first reading goal in ELA class and explored our "reading histories" in an effort to get to know ourselves better as readers.
Reading goals will be set every two weeks and are based on how many pages a student can naturally read in 10 minutes. I'm asking for 2 hours of reading/week, but since the goal is page-based, no "clock watching" is necessary. Students will be updating their progress daily on our digital spreadsheet. Ask your student about his/her independent reading over this long weekend!
Don't forget to stay updated with what's going on in ELA by visiting Ms. K's blog or follow Willow ELA's Instagram page.
Social Studies –
This week in Social Studies, we have continued to look at the methods of history. Students are expanding their vocabulary, and will be tested on their new words next Friday. The answer key will be available on my website for corrections this weekend.
Next week, we will begin looking at River Valley Civilizations.

Math-
All Math- Most students sent me their picture collage and I will be printing those this weekend and hang them up around the room to represent our diverse students. We will use one from each class each week to try to guess which classmate it belongs to. I am still missing some, please check with your student that they submitted it me so, it can be printed.
algebra- Got their chapter 1 tests back, if they were below 80% they were required to reassess. Reassessment will only be allowed first semester. I encourage students to come see me as soon as they don't understand something. We are working through Chapter 2 and will probably be testing in about 2 weeks.
7th grade- Finished up Learning Target 1 and 2 this week, they took their formatives, ask students how they're feeling about adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing +/- numbers. We will be working on the same thing next week but with fractions and decimals, oh my!

Science –
Air Traffic Controller Geringer here - all planes have landed safely. Congratulations to our class winners. Our longest flight was an impressive 19 meters. On top of our paper airplane flying students participated in a group research and discussion defining astronomy, professions, and what researchers use to study the world above our heads. We finished the week with a travel through celestial bodies to test our existing knowledge of space.
Next week students will begin a research project that has them identify information about three celestial objects. The choice is theirs for what objects they chose to research. The end goal is to create statements that compare and contrast their chosen objects and back up their statements with facts. They will be creating a visual presentation for one of these items to share with their classmates at the conclusion of the project.
Have a fantastic long weekend.
