Social Studies –

Students wrapped up their visit to Ancient Rome this week with a look at the legacy of Rome and their open note quiz.  I am leaving the quiz open over Spring Break.  Any student who did not finish OR who wants to improve their scores can go back in and retake the quiz.  I will close the quiz on the day we return.  Current grades for the quiz are in the gradebook, but I will update them a few times over the break.

Students have been given a copy of the Classical World Study Guide.  I am not expecting them to work on the study guide over break, but I wanted them to see the topics after we finished the quiz.  I will provide time in class for students to work on the study guides when we return.  The Classical World Unit Test will be the Friday after we return.

After school help is available in my room every Thursday until 4:00

The two learning goals for Circulatory System unit are the following:
  1. The student is able to describe the path of the flow of blood through the circulatory system.
  2. The student is able to describe the functions of the Circulatory and Respiratory systems.
The following vocabulary words we have introduced and already discussed:
Alveoli
Arteries
Aorta
Aortic valve
Bicuspid valve
Capillaries
Left Atrium
Left Ventricle
Pulmonary artery
Right atrium
Right ventricle
Tricuspid valve
& Veins

The Dynamic field trip to the Practical Anatomy and Surgical Education Lab at St. Louis University the students participate in the ADVENTURES IN MEDICINE and SCIENCE (AIMS) program to do a pig heart dissection. This is a top notch, state of the art dissection lab! The students will also see a comparison of a healthy human heart compared to a diseased human heart. There are 3 paper permission slips required for this field trip; one for Webster Groves School District and two for St. Louis University Practical Anatomy Lab which was sent home today! Below are the links to those permission slips.
