ELA –
We're working on the third part of our learning goal this week: "students will show their thinking about their reading in conversation and writing."
Oftentimes, we equate writing about reading with summaries, but we explored some new and interesting ways to show what we think about our reading while going deeper with our thoughts! Check out Ms. K's Instagram page to see some snaps of some creative student work that showcases their individuality and their deep thinking about their reading.
We also set new page goals, so ask your student about his or her reading!
Don't forget to stay updated with what's going on in ELA by visiting Ms. K's blog or follow Willow ELA's Instagram page.
Social Studies –
This week, students have begun looking at the geography of Mesopotamia. We are looking at the ways in which rivers can influence the development of civilization. Although there are many river valley civilizations, each developed very unique qualities. Students also completed a Vocabulary Activity with a test to follow next Friday.
On Monday, we will be celebrating Constitution Day by wondering what would happen if Hammurabi was the principal of Hixson.

Math-
All Math- Most students sent me their picture collage and they are hanging up in the room to represent our diverse students. We will use one from each class each week to try to guess which classmate it belongs to. I am still missing some, please check with your student that they submitted it me so, it can be printed.
Algebra- They have finished chapter 2 and will be testing on chapter 2 on Monday. Their cumulative review is due next Friday. We will be working on chapter 3 next week.
7th grade math- finished up LT1-4 and took their test today. We will be working on order of operations with rational numbers next week.

Science –
This week was about research and student choice. Students identified qualitative and quantitative data gathered about three student chosen objects in our universe. They condensed their research into descriptive paragraphs, and chose one of the objects to present to the class. We ended the week with students presenting their knowledge to the class by essay, slides presentation, posters and even some great iMovie magic.
Next week students will be analyzing their research and creating compare and contrast statements which are supported by their data. We will practice by comparing given objects prior to using the student written statements on their objects as a summative assessment for this section.
Enjoy your weekend - please email or call if you have any questions.
