Math-

We were working on learning target 3 and 4 this week. We found missing angles and talked about the inequality theorem of triangles. We are finishing up with slicing 3D objects on Monday and taking a summative on Thursday.

Algebra is taking their final Wednesday.

  • Cross-Cutting Concepts
    • Systems and System models: Defining systems and system models are ways to understand ideas/concepts.
    • Scale, Proportion, and Quantity: Changes in scale, proportion, or quantity affect a system’s structure and/or performance.
    • Patterns: Observing patterns & events guides organization and classification and leads to understanding of relationships.
  • Monday was Universe goals 2, 3, 4, & 5 summative assessment.
  • Tuesday was the DAY of CODE.
  • Wednesday was distribution of the Summative Project for Goal #1 Universe objects. (See goal above)
  • Thursday was a Counselor lesson from National Academic Advising Association discussing “peer pressure.”
  • Friday was Research on the Universe Objects Project.

Goal 1:  I am able to analyze and interpret data to compare and contrast objects in the universe.

4
I demonstrate innovation, in depth inference(s), or advanced application(s) with the learning goal.  In addition to level 3 I am able to:
  • use ratios/scales to relate objects in the universe.
3
I am able to:
  • analyze and interpret data to compare and contrast objects (celestial bodies) in the universe; such as, sizes of objects, habitable properties, layers of the crust and atmosphere, surface features, orbital radius, etc.

Next week the students will finish their research, turn in project and do their in class presentations.

Each year the Hixson staff and students try to help some of our families in need.  We collect food to help sustain over breaks and adopt families to assist with clothing/winter needs.  This year we have a goal of making 20 food baskets to help sustain families over the winter break.  In addition, certain teams are adopting families in an effort to fulfill some holiday wishes.  Currently, your child(ren) have the opportunity to donate funds toward the wishes of a Hixson family.  If you have questions regarding this program, please feel free to contact the 7th grade counselor Linda Peterson at 314-918-4554.

The family we have adopted needs the following things:

7 year old Girl:  Shirts – size 8        Wish List:  Child size cello 1/2
Pants - size 8                                                      Learning tablet
Shoes – size 1                                                     American girl doll - Kaya

English –
Summative scores for our narrative unit are being updated today. If students would like to reassess, they just need to schedule a time with me and make revisions to their narrative that they produced. We will be looking at these narratives next week, and students will be reflecting on the differences between their pre and post tests.

We have revamped the reading goal scoring system. Instead of just assigning a grade based on pages read, students' grades will reflect their conversation with me about their reading (either by signing up for a conference date with me OR by writing me a letter about their reading, to be submitted on Google Classroom) AND their progress toward their page goals.

To view how I'll be grading students, you can access the scoring guide here. Students who read >90% of their pages and think deeply about their reading (showcased through their conference/letter) will attain a 3 on the proficiency scale (a 90% grade).

Students who would like to reach a 4 must go above and beyond the requirements for a 3 by expressing their thinking about their reading in a creative way. Students have a menu of options to view on Google Classroom. You can view that menu here. We are moving away from the traditional book chat (where students just stand up and talk about their books), and I'm asking students to really showcase their thinking at a level beyond just talking about their book.

If you have any questions, please email me at kraushaar.kaitlyn@wgmail.org

Math-

This week we started on our learning target about angles. We talked about complementary, supplementary, adjacent, and vertical angles. We are going to work on missing angles next week and the triangle inequality theorem. We are finishing up the semester and will test before the end.

Algebra- Final will be the last three days of the semester chapters 1-5.
