ELA –

We finished up our companion books this week and celebrated on Friday with some Kool-Aid and time to read each other's books.

Monday and Tuesday: students will be completing an in-class summative assessment to end our informational writing unit.

I also involved the students in a discussion about how to change our independent reading for the rest of the year. I got lots of great ideas from the kids and will be spending the weekend reflecting and thinking about how to make independent reading more enjoyable and more present in the classroom. Next week, we'll spend some time implementing those changes--I'll keep you in the loop!

Social Studies

Students have continued to explore the culture of Ancient Greece this week, and spent some time learning about the ideas and inventions that still influence us today.  Mid-week, we pivoted to examining Athens and Sparta.  Students are looking at these contrasting cities as we move towards the Peloponnesian War.  Reading Notes 27 and the BrainPop on Athens are due Monday.

Permission slips for the April 11th field trip to the Art Museum have been sent out.  They and the $5.00 fee may be turned in at the office.

Math-

Algebra- We started chapter 9 this week. We are learning more about quadratics and their graphs.

7th grade math-  We finished up our first LT1 with scale factors and finished LT2 this week of constructing figures given constraints. This is a short learning goal so we will be finishing LT3 next week and they should expect a summative right before spring break.

Students worked on completing their Healthy Teen Body Systems research and presentations which are the summative assignment for goal 3 in our cells unit.  It assesses students knowledge of how body systems work together to perform tasks inside of organisms. We will begin presenting Monday.

As a reminder - we will be traveling to the SLU Practical Anatomy lab to dissect pig hearts on March 15th. Permission slips were sent home as part of the back to school packet as well as on Tuesday of this week if they had not been turned in.  Please return the permission slips and $12 cost as soon as possible.

In science students began and worked on their summative project about cell parts by creating an analogy that relates a cell and its parts to another system.  The example we did as a class related a cell and its parts to a city and its parts and functions.  This project was done in class on Tuesday and Wednesday and is due on Monday February 5.

We also worked on completing their disease research from last week by writing and presenting a public service announcement as the public relations speaker for the CDC alerting the public about an outbreak of their researched disease.
