Social Studies –
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, we focused on art and architecture and on Wednesday, I introduced their project. Students received their choice menus, which should have been shared with you, signed and returned on Thursday. We will begin working on the projects when we return. The choice menus and rubrics are on my website under Greek Culture Project. I have asked students to challenge themselves and choose something they think will be easy. The project is due April 3rd.

Science –
Thank you to Ms. Krueger for teaching while I’ve been out sick. I have surgery scheduled for Friday morning. I should be fully recovered and will return to work the Monday we return from Spring Break! :)
Wishing a great Spring Break for everyone!
Here are suggested conversation starters for your young engineer:
  • Do did you score on your circulatory and respiratory systems summative Quia Assessment?
  • What are some of the benefits of aerobic exercise?
  • What are some of the “super foods??
  1. Goal 1: I understand that living organisms are systems of interacting subsystems composed, on the most basic level, of cells.
    1. I am able to:
      1. describe the path of the flow of blood through the circulatory system.
      2. describe the functions of the circulatory system.
      3. describe the functions of the respiratory systems.
      4. describe how the structures of heart function.
      5. describe the concepts for keeping a healthy circulatory system.
The cross-cutting concept have been:
  1. Structure and Function: The way in which an object or living thing is shaped & its substructures determine many of its properties and functions.
Activities students participated in this week:
  1. Students finished preparing for the summative assessment by working on review questions, correcting their answers, taking a practice test, and reviewing using their notes or resources on Google Classroom.
Emphasis this week:
  1. }Target: The path of the blood through the heart, functions of circulatory system, healthy lifestyle choices, and functions of the respiratory system.
  2. Vocabulary: Alveoli, Aorta, Aortic Valve (semilunar), Arteries, Bicuspid valve, Capillaries, Inferior Vena Cava, Left Atrium, Left Ventricle, Lungs, Pulmonary Artery, Pulmonary Valve (semilunar), Pulmonary Vein, Right Atrium, Right Ventricle, Superior Vena Cava, Tricuspid valve, &  Veins.
NEXT WEEK the students will be working on understanding genetics when we return from Spring Break.
Goal 1:    I understand that living organisms are systems of interacting subsystems composed, on the most basic level, of cells.  (Scale/Proportion) (Systems) (Structure & Function)

4
I demonstrate innovation, in depth inference(s), or advanced application(s) with the learning goal. In addition to level 3 I will be able to:
  • predict the effect(s) on an organism if a specific subsystem or cell does not function properly or does not exist OR demonstrate additional understanding of cells.
3
I use both
  • cell theory
and
  • levels of organization
to show that an organism is living.

  • Please remind your students to charge their Chromebook every night! We have had many students come to class with dead Chromebooks, which slows down instruction

  • Below is the link for the Spring Student-Led Conferences. Because students are in charge of conducting the conference, please do not plan to attend without your child. Your student will be presenting their portfolios. It does not matter if you choose session A, B, C, or D. If you do want a traditional conference with the Willow team faculty, please email Lisa Pettid.

    • The summative assessment for the informational writing unit will be Monday, March 13th.
    • Ask your student if he/she is participating in the Slice of Life challenge! I'm blogging every day in the month of March about a "slice of my life." I decided I'd tell my classes about it because I wanted them to harass me about writing every day, and I also threw out the challenge to them if they wanted to join. Imagine my shock when over 30 students decided to take on the challenge! Students are either "31 slicers," who write every day in March, or "17 slicers," who write every school day in March. We are planning a "slice party" for the end of March for those who meet their goal. If you are interested in donating towards a pizza/cake slice party, let me know!

This week students have been exploring the achievements of Ancient Greece. Our particular emphasis has been on the differences between the city-states of Athens and Sparta.

On Monday and Tuesday of next week, we will be focusing on art and architecture and on Wednesday, I will introduce their project. If students would like to preview their project choices, they are welcome to visit that section of my website.

This week we have been further exploring Ancient Greece.  Students have been exploring the beginnings of the culture we tend to think of in Ancient Greece and the ways in which the city-states drove each other to greatness.  Next week will focus on the contrasts between Athens and Sparta, and the cultural achievements of the Golden Age of Athens.  This will include art and architecture.
