We began the week with scheduled books talk presentations and a trip to the library. All book talks, including any make-ups or redoes, are due on either Monday or Tuesday during class.

Also this week, students are practicing their close reading skills and selecting critical details from the reading for additional study. Students were provided time in class on Tuesday and Wednesday to complete the assignment. On Thursday, students made inferences from their collection of details to deepen their understanding of the texts through a close examination of the characters.

Grades in the SIS Portal are being updated frequently in preparation for the end of the semester. Students may still submit revisions on their argumentative essay and their informative essay. No other assignments are being accepted at this time. To support student success, I will be available after school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

This week students have been exploring the impact of geography on ancient Greece.  This is the first non-river valley civilization that we have looked at this year, so we have been examining the differences.  We will continue to look at the history and development of ancient Greece until Winter Break.  When we return, we will start preparing for the Greek Myth Project.

I will be accepting late assignments until December 18th.

This week students are reading a powerful story about perseverance in the face of economic uncertainty and segregation by the acclaimed author Mildred Taylor—“Song of the Trees.” We continued honing our reading strategies of questioning the text and of citing evidence from the text to support understanding.

Students’ argumentative essays about the three scary stories that we read for Halloween have been graded; however, I am encouraging all students to continue revising their essays and seeking feedback. Students should re-submit their essays through Google Classroom. Essay grades will be changed in the gradebook as warranted. One to one time is available with me after school.

Math-

Two more grades were added this week.  Do not be alarmed if the grades were low, as students were not allowed to study for the tests.  These were Review Tests over concepts previously studied. By not having students review for the tests, helped me identify students who are not retaining some concepts. I will revisit these concepts and students will be reassessed.

Students spent the week preparing for their Ancient World Unit Assessment.  We spent three class periods working with study guides.  Students who did not finish the test have one week to finish up.  Students who wish to retake the test will need to meet with me first before scheduling a retake.

On Monday, we will move to our new unit The Classical World.  We will begin the unit with a look at the geography of Greece and its impact on the development of that civilization.
