2.       You should only request a conference with your child’s Discovery teacher.  If your child is off-team for Discovery, special instructions have been emailed to you.

Math –

This week students had a good time learning the concepts of Percents.  They learned how to write equations for the three types of Percent problems, and they learned how to estimate percentages.  The next time your family dine-out, have your student calculate the Tip mentally.  And when you go shopping have your student calculate the discount mentally.

We have started to review for the MAP test (second week in April).  On parts of this test students will be allowed to use a calculator.  I only have a classroom set of 30 (which will not be enough) because all students will take the Math part of the MAP test at the same time. If any way possible, please make sure your student have a calculator by Monday in order to learn how to operate it before the test.

Science –

This week in Dynamic Science the students finished up their work on the Weather Unit and took the Weather Unit Test today. Consider asking your student how their Inspiration Water Cycle file looked when they revised it on Wednesday. Many students were surprised how wrong their first shot at the graphic organizer looked to them now. Next unit is disease.

Social Studies –
This week we have been looking at the development of Rome.  In a fairly short time they moved from a democratic republic into a totalitarian empire; how does that happen?  We are exploring the reasons.  We will continue with this thought at the beginning of next week, and then dive into the Empire. We have also been looking at a new word in Latin every day.  I think they are really enjoying this. They now know the words for hand, finger, foot, arm, and the verb which means "I see".  Students are learning the Latin root, and then finding words in English from those latin roots. Please check the portal for regular grade updates.
I am available for after school help every Thursday until 4:00
