ELA –
Some fabulous story ideas were shared in class this week! We continued collecting ideas for our realistic fiction pieces this week by looking at our own lives and the world around us for inspiration.
Next week, we'll choose our idea and begin writing our stories!

This week we began our exploration of ancient Egypt. Students worked this week on a map activity so that they can put historical events in context. Next week students will begin working on their Egypt Project. Students will have until the end of the month to research and complete their project. The full directions can be found here.

Science –
This week was demonstration week for Willow Science. Students created demonstrations to show how the positioning and movement of the Sun, Moon, and Earth cause us to see the moon in different phases. These demonstrations were given one on one with me to assess their knowledge of how motion causes phases. This will be assessed as a formative grade.
Next week students will be doing Phase 1 of our Mission to Mars project. For this project students will seek to find a solution to a challenge that astronauts traveling to Mars will face in planning and executing a successful Mars mission. The first step will be creating a focused research question that will allow them to focus on a practical solution to the issue they are interested in.
