ELA –
We committed to our story ideas this week! Our "Coming Soon" wall is filled with exciting realistic fiction story blurbs. I can't wait to see the final products!

We also engaged in character development by placing our characters in everyday scenes and exploring who our characters are--their personality traits, their strengths and weaknesses and their motivations.

We ended the week by celebrating The National Day on Writing. We wrote all day on Friday...writer's choice!

Page goals are due on Monday, so make sure to get those last pages read this weekend.

Don't forget to stay updated with what's going on in ELA by visiting Ms. K's blog or follow Willow ELA's Instagram page.

Social Studies
Students have been conducting research for their Egypt Project. As of Friday, students have chosen their topics, had them approved, and begun their research. If you have not yet seen your child's project contract, please ask them to share it with you. The full directions are available on my website and the project is due November 3rd.

Math-

Algebra- We started chapter 5 this week

7th grade math- We took our LT1 and LT2 formatives this week. Because I was out for two days if students are wanting to reassess they can do so by Tuesday next week to have their grades change before their first quarter grades are printed. Let me know if you have any questions.

Science –
A busy week in science included two days of research and three days of students focusing on learning goal 4 for our Space Systems unit - Seasons.
Students worked Monday and Tuesday to answer their self created research question about a mission to Mars.  Students who did not answer their question sufficiently should gather more research over the weekend.  They will begin creating a class presentation on Monday.
The remainder of the week was spent reading, discussing, illustrating, and experiencing how direct and indirect lighting from the Sun along with the tilt of the Earth’s axis causes us to experience seasons on Earth.

As 7th grade tradition, students will be performing a pumpkin drop lab on Halloween to further enrich their exploration of gravity.  Students are encouraged but not required to bring in a Pumpkin of any size by Thursday 10/26 or Monday 10/30.  Pumpkins will not be returned.
