ELA –

We finished up our informational writing unit with a post assessment on Monday and Tuesday. We took the rest of the week to invest in resetting the reading climate in the classroom and also engaged in our first ELA Exploratory Day. I'm experimenting with giving students one day per week to work on choice reading and/or writing. Kids seem excited about the possibility of getting to "just read" and "just write," so we're going to continue it next week.

Don't forget to stay updated with what's going on in ELA by visiting Ms. K's blog or follow Willow ELA's Instagram page.

Social Studies

This week students spent time comparing and contrasting the governments and societies of Athens and Sparta.  They discovered that even a democracy can have inequity and that it was better to be in Sparta if you were a woman.  Next week we will begin the Greek Culture Project.  Directions can be found on my website.  Projects will be presented as part of a gallery walk on March 14th.

Permission slips for the April 11th field trip to the Art Museum have been sent out.  They and the $5.00 fee may be turned in at the office.

Science
Students this week presented their summative projects on goal 3 in our cells unit.  They explained to their classmates how our body systems work together to complete a necessary task. We will begin exploring the human heart in preparation for our heart dissection field trip.

Speaking of that:

As a reminder - we will be traveling to the SLU Practical Anatomy lab to dissect pig hearts on March 15th. Permission slips were sent home as part of the back to school packet as well as on Tuesday of this week if they had not been turned in.  Please return the permission slips and $12 cost as soon as possible.
