Willow Weekly 2/27-3/3

Welcome to the Willow Weekly.  Here you will find all of your Team Willow news and information.  Please sign up for automatic updates and you will be notified whenever an update is made.

Important Information:

  • Please remind your students to charge their Chromebook every night! We have had many students come to class with dead Chromebooks, which slows down instruction

  • Below is the link for the Spring Student-Led Conferences. Because students are in charge of conducting the conference, please do not plan to attend without your child. Your student will be presenting their portfolios. It does not matter if you choose session A, B, C, or D. If you do want a traditional conference with the Willow team faculty, please email Lisa Pettid.

    • Click here to sign up for Spring Student-Led Conferences
    • This is also a good time to check your student's supplies. Many students have been asking us to give them paper and pencils during class.
    • After school help sessions and activities are after school Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 4:00. At least one teacher from Willow will be available for help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until 4:00. A list of other after school opportunities can be found here.
    • If you have not filled out this link regarding the Algebra Placement for 8th grade, please do so: https://goo.gl/j1LVeu

    English –

    • 5 chapters drafted in the companion books are due on Wednesday, 3/8/17!
    • We will be visiting the Book Fair on Monday. Students are welcome to bring money for purchases.
    • The summative assessment for the informational writing unit will be Monday, March 13th.
    • Ask your student if he/she is participating in the Slice of Life challenge! I'm blogging every day in the month of March about a "slice of my life." I decided I'd tell my classes about it because I wanted them to harass me about writing every day, and I also threw out the challenge to them if they wanted to join. Imagine my shock when over 30 students decided to take on the challenge! Students are either "31 slicers," who write every day in March, or "17 slicers," who write every school day in March. We are planning a "slice party" for the end of March for those who meet their goal. If you are interested in donating towards a pizza/cake slice party, let me know!

Don't forget to stay updated with what's going on in ELA by visiting Ms. K's blog.

    Social Studies –
This week we have been further exploring Ancient Greece.  Students have been exploring the beginnings of the culture we tend to think of in Ancient Greece and the ways in which the city-states drove each other to greatness.  Next week will focus on the contrasts between Athens and Sparta, and the cultural achievements of the Golden Age of Athens.  This will include art and architecture.

    Math-
Algebra- Has started chapter 8- operations of polynomials. Since many of them are cross teamed and the SLU science field trip is coming up which may cause them to miss algebra. They are responsible for getting notes and knowing the assignments for the day they missed.

7th grade math- They finished up ratios and proportions unit this week. They got their study guide Friday before they left. They will Monday in class to work on it and Wednesday to go over and study. Their test will be Thursday.
