English –
This week, we finished up summarizing and took our summative assessment on Tuesday. We focused on the next step of connecting and responding to our reading by using a new strategy, the action/reaction method. Students found a "whoa moment" in their reading (the action) and wrote down their thoughts about that moment (the reaction). We practiced this with familiar texts, and students were gradually released to trying the strategy with their own independent book. Next week, they'll learn two new ways to respond and how to turn these "seeds of thinking" into longer responses.

Encourage your student to sign up for a Book Chat on Google Classroom! Book chats are not mandatory, but students who want to reach a 4 (expert) level for class participation should complete one for second term.

Math-

This week in math we talked about converting fractions to decimals and percents. A lot of this was review for them but just applying it. We also started the discussion about absolute value and what that really means. We applied it to order of operations and I taught them a war game using the different colors as positive and negative numbers. They really enjoyed the game and it was competitive. Next week we will start the discussion about distribution We are reaching the end of the unit and a summative will be coming soon!
