We had a great first week in ELA! Next week, we will be talking more about the reading life and calculating how much reading each student is responsible for completing each week (the rate is individual to each student). We will also be learning about the structure of a good reader's response and how to select meaningful events in the text that will lead to a quality reader's response. Starting Monday, each student is expected to bring an independent reading book to class each day.

Math-
We had a great start to our math year this week in class! We will be starting our unit on Number Systems next week. The students are finishing up work on an assignment using 4 four's to solve for numbers 1-40. We will finish that on Monday. They are expected to bring their notebook, pencil and chromebook to class with them each day unless otherwise instructed.

Welcome to Dynamic Science!
During the first week of science class the learning goal has been “I am developing my observation skills.
The target has been: “I am able to define and practice inductive reasoning.”
The cross-cutting concept has been: : “Patterns: Observing patterns and events guides organization and classification and leads to understanding of relationships.”
The two habits of mind we were developing are Gathering Data Through All Senses and Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations

APPLYING PAST KNOWLEDGE to NEW SITUATIONS:
Intelligent people:

- when confronted with new & perplexing problems draw upon their knowledge & experiences as sources of data to support their: ideas, theories, analogies, or processes

Gathering Data Through All Senses
Intelligent people:
- Know all information gets to the brain by the senses: taste, smell, touch, movement, hearing, and sight.
- Know most of our language, cultural, and physical learning come from interactions with our environment
- Accurately observe and subsequently analyze the sensory pathway patterns and processes.
- Sensory pathways are open, alert, and acutely absorb more information than people with withered pathways
Inductive reasoning is using all your observations and evidence to make a prediction where you have at least a 60% chance of being correct.
If it is 50% or less chance of being correct then you are guessing and you are not using inductive reasoning. We utilize inductive reasoning when we write hypotheses.
The students got signed up for Google Classroom and Remind.

Social Studies –
Welcome to Dynamic Social Studies! We began this school year with a look at the question How Do We
Know What We Know? This is a way for us
to explore the methods of history.
Students have been learning some new vocabulary and even conducted an
online archaeological excavation. Next
week, we will be looking at Otzi the Iceman. Students will also be working on a vocabulary activity beginning Wednesday.
