Math-

The Dynamic students have worked really hard  this year and I feel that they will be ready to take the math portion of the MAP test in two weeks. Students will be allowed to use a calculator on a portion of the MAP test, but I only have a classroom set of calculator which isn't enough for the team, because everyone will take the test at the same time.  I highly recommend that each student bring a calculator to school Monday and leave it here for the test (dollar store calculator is fine).

Science –
This week in Dynamic Science students did the pretest, What Do You Know about the Circulatory and Respiratory Systems, setting up vocabulary templates, vocabulary tracking, goal tracking, textbook reading, note-taking, video segment notes, and answering questions about the circulatory and respiratory system. Most of the students are feeling there are lots of parts to the heart and are working to be able to describe the path of the blood. The concept of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood is coming into their vocabulary!

The students received the results of their Weather Unit goal #1 test and those scores will be posted on the portal this weekend. Please ask you child about what they learned about weather.

This unit will prepare them for the Dynamic field trip to the Practical Anatomy and Surgical Education Lab at St. Louis University to participate in the ADVENTURES IN MEDICINE and SCIENCE (AIMS) program to do a pig heart dissection. This is a top notch, state of the art dissection lab! The students will also see a comparison of a healthy human heart compared to a diseased human heart. There are 3 permission slips required for this field trip; one for Webster Groves School District and two for St. Louis University Practical Anatomy Lab which were due today, Friday, 28 March. Below are the links to those permission slips.

Some of the students had homework this weekend to finish answering questions over their textbook research.

Social Studies –

We began the week with a great class discussion about the functions of governments.  I asked students to imagine what would happen if our government just left.  This is what happened to former Roman colonies at the beginning of the Dark Ages.  It led to an entirely new social structure called Feudalism.  We have also spent time this week with the geography of the region.  Next week we will further explore the early middle ages with a particular emphasis on the emerging social structures and the beginnings of nation states.

After school help is available in my room every Tuesday until 4:00
