English –
This week, students have been drafting/revising fictional short stories on the computers.Their first submission was turned in on Wednesday. Despite being turned in, students should continue revising their stories at home or during afterschool help sessions.
Later in the week, we read and listened to a humorous story about a substitute teacher by Arthur Cavanaugh titled "Miss Awful." Next we will answer students' questions about the story, seeking evidence from the text. Next, we will compare and contrast the characters of the story to determine which character was the most dynamic (experienced change as a result of the events).
Students are expected to revise and resubmit their summary of the news article about either the Pope's name or the name of the new royal baby.

Social Studies –
Students have begun their exploration of
ancient Greece. If you visit my webpage,
you will notice that I have redecorated to reflect our current unit of
study. We began, as we always do, by
looking at the geography of the area.
Students will be asked to explain the relationship between geography and
civilization in ancient Greece. This is
very different from a river valley civilization and students are noticing the
changes. Next week, students will begin
looking at Greek mythology. We will
begin the week in the library so that students may choose a story to retell and
illustrate. Students will have several
class periods to work on this project, but you should also see some work come home. The project will be due December 13th.
All missing work for Social Studies should be turned in by
December 16th.
After school help is available in my room every Tuesday until 4:00
